French Onion Turkey Melt

Caramelized onions and Gruyère complement sliced turkey for a sandwich option with irresistible gourmet flair.

Ingredients

Caramelized Onion Jam (about 1½ cups)

2 lg.

yellow onions, thinly sliced

2 tbsp.

butter

1 tbsp.

olive oil

½ tsp.

salt

½ tsp.

thyme (optional)

2 tbsp.

sherry or white wine (optional)

1–2 tsp.

balsamic to finish

Directions

  1. 1. Cook onions in butter/oil with salt on low, 25–35 min until deep golden. Deglaze with sherry; finish with balsamic.

To Assemble (per sandwich)

2 slice(s)

rustic bread, buttered on the outside

2–3 tbsp.

onion jam

2-3 oz. ea.

Gruyère, sliced or shredded

    Build & Melt

  1. 1. Inside of bread: smear onion jam, add turkey, top with Gruyère. Close. Griddle over medium-low, covered, 3–4 min per side until the bread is crisp and cheese melts, or use torch to melt the cheese.
