Celebrate National Sausage Month
October 2016
Known as a time for tailgating, bonfires and beer, it’s quite convenient that October is National Sausage Month. Once seen as peasant fare, sausage is a versatile ingredient that many chefs are experimenting with on their menus.
According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, Americans consumed an estimated 14 billion servings of sausage in 2015. Diners love it because it tastes good, and chefs love it because of its affordability and versatility. While sausage is often used as a component of other dishes, it can also serve as a center-of-plate protein.
Use these on-trend menu ideas to celebrate National Sausage Month in your operation:
- Venezuelan Breakfast Arepa: A freshly prepared arepa sandwich with scrambled egg, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, queso fresco, salsa and house-made avocado-cilantro sauce.
- Turkey Frank & Sauerkraut: Try turkey franks in place of other types of hot dogs for a better-for-you twist. This one’s topped with whole grain mustard and warm sauerkraut for a classic fall favorite.
- Turkey Breakfast Sausage over Potato Pancakes with Sautéed Apples: This breakfast dish is a hearty and comforting way for diners to fill up before a crisp fall day.
