Don’t Single Out Solo Diners

The stigma of dining alone has gone out the window, as parties of one are now the fastest-growing table size. Train your staff with these simple tips to make solo diners feel comfortable and respected in your operation:

  • Not all solo diners want to sit at the bar or counter. Offer seating as you would to any party size.
  • Read their body language. Solo diners may be looking to engage and have a conversation with their server, but they also might be dining alone to disengage and have some time to themselves.
  • Avoid potentially embarrassing questions, like “Who are you waiting for?” or “Just one?”

Remember, it’s important to make sure every table has a great experience at your operation, no matter how many seats are filled.
