  • University of Kansas in Lawrence created a new twist on turkey burgers by adding seaweed salad as a topping to lower the calories. The original turkey burger was served with a watercress cream cheese and julienned cucumber.
  • University of Iowa City rolled out a turkey burger with Parmesan cheese and a chiffonade of basil. Grilled zucchini, eggplant slices and Muenster cheese topped the burger.

Commercial operations can take cues from the typical flavors their customers crave to create exciting and cravable turkey burgers.

  • Hardee's Jalapeño Turkey Burger featured sliced jalapeños, pepper Jack cheese and creamy Santa Fe sauce, served on a whole-wheat bun with sliced red onion, lettuce and tomato.
  • ESPN Zone's Turkey Cheeseburger featured grilled portobello mushroom, avocado and choice of cheese served with chipotle mayonnaise.
