We Love Turkey Lovers’ Month
June 2017
In 2006, Dave Heineman, who was then governor of Kansas, signed a proclamation to name June Turkey Lovers’ Month. While turkey is a delicious, better-for-you option that works across all dayparts, all year long, June is the perfect time to learn more about this versatile protein that patrons crave.
A three-ounce serving of boneless, skinless turkey breast packs 26 grams of protein, just one gram of fat and zero grams of saturated fat—making it higher in protein than the same size serving of chicken or top loin beef. In addition, turkey contains selenium, potassium and an array of B vitamins.
According to Technomic’s Poultry Report, 89% of turkey consumers agree that the protein is healthier than beef or pork. 33% would order turkey more often if it were available on menus, and 37% would like to see turkey as a protein choice for a wider variety of menu items.
