Turkey Products Benefitting From Foodservice Breakfast Market Growth

Consumers See Turkey as a More Healthful and Flavorful Menu Option

Breakfast remains the industry’s fastest growing daypart, with Mintel expecting the market to grow by more than $10 billion in the next five years.1 Increasing competition for consumer food-away-from-home dollars is driving the need for more patron-pleasing breakfast choices.

One such trend is a move towards healthful options. In a recent industry article, Technomic EVP Darren Tristano said, “[Turkey] is becoming increasingly popular for breakfast. Consumers are comfortable eating turkey bacon and turkey sausage, and that trend will continue to increase.” Research from Technomic also confirms that more consumers would consider ordering turkey (over chicken) for a breakfast sandwich.2

To help operators capitalize on these opportunities, Butterball Foodservice has a variety of unique turkey breakfast/brunch menu ideas:

  • Breakfast Turkey Sausage Croissant—Turkey sausage and Asiago cheese topped with orange mango chutney, sandwiched in a flaky croissant.
  • Turkey Burger Benedict—Poached egg and spicy jalapeño hollandaise sauce with Cheddar and pico de gallo on top of a turkey burger, served on a toasted brioche roll.
  • Signature Breakfast Sandwich—Egg white omelet with maple turkey sausage topped with fresh spinach and served on ciabatta makes a healthful choice that’s perfect for on the go.

Richie Jenkins, Senior Director of Marketing for Butterball Foodservice, says, “The fast-growing breakfast market coupled with a rising preference for healthy options is encouraging chefs to use turkey products in new and different menu applications. Butterball is committed to supporting operators in maximizing their breakfast potential, and we are fully confident that our products will consistently deliver the taste and quality consumers expect when dining out.”
